The Environment Ministry has
reconsidered Solid Waste Management Rules following 16 years. Tending to a
question and answer session to report the reexamined Rules here today, Minister
of State (Independent Charge) of Environment, Forest and Climate Change, Shri
Prakash Javadekar said that the Rules are presently relevant past metropolitan
territories and will reach out to urban agglomerations, evaluation towns,
informed modern townships, zones under the control of Indian Railways, air
terminals, airbase, port and harbor, resistance foundations, unique financial
zones, State and Central government associations, spots of explorers, religious
and verifiable significance.
He called attention to that 62 million
tons of waste is created every year in the nation at present, out of which 5.6
million tons is plastic waste, 0.17 million tons is biomedical waste, unsafe
waste era is 7.90 million tons for each annum and 15 lakh ton is e-squander. He
included that the per capita squander era in Indian urban areas ranges from 200
grams to 600 grams for every day. Shri Javadekar underlined the way that 43
million TPA is gathered, 11.9 million is dealt with and 31 million is dumped in
landfill locales, which implies that lone around 75-80% of the civil waste gets
gathered and just 22-28 % of this waste is handled and treated. "Squander
era will increment from 62 million tons to about165 million tons in 2030",
Shri Javadekar said.
